Hair Tip #2: Keeping your Extensions Healthy

When we look at getting extensions, things can get a little crazy. We think about the cost, the upkeep, the quality, and everything in between. After all, hair extensions are with you 24/7, right? Lots of lovely individuals end up getting extensions added but find themselves wondering how to keep them looking 10/10. Well, with that being said, here are 5 tips for styling your extensions!

Tip #1: Make sure that the hair is real human hair. Some brands of extensions use synthetic strands mixed with human hair and extreme heat can cause major damage. Heat damage results in poor looking hair extensions and can ultimately be a massive pain in the butt to deal with once they are ruined!

Tip #2: Always use a thermal protectant. Thermal protectants will create a barrier between your hair and the hot tool you’re using. This step helps protect from split ends, burning your hair, and breakage. 

Most styling and management tips pertain to heat with extensions due to the fact that they are a new part of you. While we are often comfortable with our own hair, extensions add a dynamic that many are not use to.

Tip #4: Never keep your hot tools on your extensions for too long. Usually I will wrap the curling iron around and leave it for about 5 seconds. This avoids any excess heat damage.

Tip #5: Leaving 1" of the ends of your hair will create a beachy wave and avoid unnecessary split ends.

For my thermal protect I am using Chi 44 iron guard. It protects the hair up to 400 degrees. 

The curling iron I am using is a 1" Hot tools curling iron. Hot tools has a heat setting so you can adjust the heat to your desired temperature.
